Four Small Tips on China product photography with a Photography Mobile Phone

01 Ensure good light
02 Highlight the subject
03 Choose a shooting angle
04 Appropriate retouching

Recently, many of my friends have asked me how to take beautiful product photos that can inspire customers to buy them?

Why is it that others can take clear and attractive photos with the same mobile phone, while my photos always look bad?

Don’t worry! PPC studio has prepared a mobile shooting tutorial for you, which is super simple and practical. Follow it and you can take satisfactory product photos!

01 Ensure good light

Light is the soul of photography. The photo must be well lit, but not overexposed. Insufficient light will make the photo too dark, and too much light will make the photo appear harsh.

In general, taking pictures of products with natural light is the closest to the real thing. When shooting products, choose sunny days as much as possible. You can use the morning and afternoon sunlight on sunny days, but you should pay attention to avoid too strong direct sunlight, especially in white, otherwise it will easily cause the photos to be overexposed.

If natural light is not available, artificial light such as desk lamps and flashlights can also be used. However, the artificial light is too strong, which is not conducive to product shooting. You can use paper towels and plastic bags to cover the light to achieve a soft light effect, and the shooting effect will be better!

02 Highlight the subject

There are two points that need to be done to realize the main subject, one is to ensure that the shooting background is clean, and the other is to properly blur the background.

Many people may think that a clean background is a solid color background, but it is not necessarily true. Clean means that there are not too many cluttered things, so that the product itself can be highlighted.

A good background can not only highlight the main body, but also not overwhelm the main body. The point is that this background must not steal the limelight of the product, and it must make the product stand out against it. In layman’s terms, safflower needs green leaves to match.

After choosing a clean background, you need to blur it, which can highlight the subject more and make the photo more atmospheric.

Note that the blur mentioned here does not refer to the blur in the image editing software. If the technology is not good enough, it will easily appear blunt, but it will be distorted. The blurring referred to here is actually the focusing action of the mobile phone when taking pictures.

It should be noted that the mobile phone is not like a camera, it is auto-focus, but the distance will affect its focus, too far or too close will not work, at this time you need to manually adjust the distance. Adjust until the subject can be clearly displayed on the phone screen, and then press the camera button. At this time, the shot will focus on the subject and blur the background.

03 Choose a shooting angle

According to the product characteristics, choose to shoot from above, flat or 45 degrees. It is recommended that each product be photographed from the front, side, and back, and shoot from multiple angles, so that buyers can have a more comprehensive understanding of the appearance of the product and improve the conversion rate of clicks.

For shopkeepers who do not understand composition and the golden ratio, when trying to take pictures of products at the beginning, they can use overhead shots first. Putting the subject in the middle and taking an overhead shot can highlight the product you want to display, effectively avoid overwhelming the guests, and avoid the imbalance of the picture due to the lack of composition. Of course, other compositions also need to try more slowly.

04 Appropriate retouching

Some post-processing of photos can sometimes make up for small flaws during shooting, and can also make photos closer to the real thing and more attractive.

But there are also two misunderstandings that need to be avoided.

One is that retouching is too difficult, so I never do it. The current picture editing software is actually very mature, such as the most commonly used Xingtu and Meitu Xiuxiu, as long as you open the software and follow the prompts, you can learn it quickly. If you want to make your photos taller and have a unified layout, you can try to use the templates on the software. As long as your original photos are qualified, you will immediately become more advanced with the templates. If you just want to make the light and composition of the photo look better, you can use the editing tools that come with your phone to adjust and correct the brightness and contrast.

Another misconception is using filters too much.Too many filters and too much color change will distort the product and reduce the trust value of customers in your real pictures.

These four points are commonly used techniques. With more time and more practice, you can also shoot very good product pictures.
